Sanibel Island

Sanibel Island is full of activities and things to do! It is known as a bit of a secret island, and has many natural wonders. The beaches on Sanibel Island are some of the best in the United States. Many people compare them to the Caribbean because of their crystal clear waters, white sand, and amazing shells!

Beaches

There are about 18 public beaches on Sanibel Island that span from Tarpon Bay Road all the way North past Bowman’s Beach. Go on a beach excursion and mark your map with pins to find your favorite beach! Take a mini road trip around the island – there is available parking at each location.

Shopping & Dining

There are quaint shops, boutiques, and malls all around Sanibel Island. If you’re looking for an outfit for the next big party, want to find a treasure at a local boutique, or just need some supplies to make your stay more enjoyable, the Sanibel Island boardwalks are the places to be! From art galleries to bustling restaurants, there’s something here for everyone.

Culture & Entertainment

There’s no shortage of things to do in Sanibel Island! Of course there are the beautiful beaches with activities like shelling and swimming, but there are also major attractions like The Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum which houses over 500 different shells from all over the world. There is also the J.N “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge which is home to over 1,000 varieties of animals including 30 threatened or endangered species. The Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge is also the winter home to the North American Cranes which fly in from Canada during that time of year. Sanibel Island is also well known for its beautiful art galleries such as the Tower Gallery, which is a cooperative that houses a collection of work from all local artists.

A Natural Escape

Enjoy the magic that nature and the ocean has to offer in Captiva Island. You will surely enjoy the views and memories that come with this place, whether you’re looking for things to do or simply wanting to relax and let time pass by.

Captiva Island

Captiva Island is said to be the less commercial of the two islands. There is not as much road and foot traffic on Captiva Island, making it a very relaxing vacation for adults and children alike

Outdoor Activities

There are many activities that one can enjoy while visiting Captiva Island, as well as Sanibel. Fishing is a popular activity on both islands with charter fishing, deep sea fishing, or light-tackle fishing. There are also numerous bike paths to choose from whether you want to ride along the beach, through nature, woods or take advantage of Sanibel’s dominant bike culture along Periwinkle Way, which is the main street that connects the island.

Wildlife

Captiva is also a popular destination for birding. The island provides an ideal habitat because of the plentiful mangrove, which is a breeding ground for birds. Captiva is home to some of the more popular birds, such as Great Egrets, Snowy Egrets, Reddish Egrets, and more. If you want to see these animals in their natural environment, make sure to take a tour during nesting season.
